K. J. McElrath holds a Master's Degree in Music Composition and Theory from Central Washington University, where he studied with Tom Gause, John Moawad and John Mickle. His influences include the music of Greece, the Middle East and the Balkan countries, Celtic Europe, the mediæval period as well as Afro-Cuban rhythms. Composers that have also influenced his work include Mozart, Fauré, Ravel, Gershwin, Grainger, Copland and Bernstein.
